THIS TRAINING IS OPEN TO ALL! No previous teacher training is required.
Join Samantha Akers for this fun and possibly mind-altering training on her version of Yin Yoga. We will explore biomechanics, joint health, stability, the science of stretching, and loving-kindness practices that complement poses held for more extended periods.
Metta is the Pali term for loving kindness or as I prefer to call it unshakable friendliness towards ourselves and others. Through a regular practice with phrases of well wishes, our hearts cool and open instead of heat up and close. We begin to feel the freedom of a peaceful heart and mind which gives birth to compassion and great care. What a beautiful way to regulate our nervous systems!
In Sam's studies with Tom Myers, Jules Mitchell, and Doug Keller, she became curious about how she could bring Yin yoga back into the "safe and beneficial" realm of yoga. She has done this by including engagement of the joints for those that are more mobile, using the practice to build strength and stability WHILE lengthening the facial and the belly of the muscles. We will also explore body reading, looking at what each student may need in a pose to benefit and balance their current body structure and alignment and why. Sam loves science, discussion, and questioning our general beliefs about yoga and the body.
All trainees receive a manual and certificate of completion and can use hours for CEU's with Yoga Alliance.
Samantha is a C-IAYT Certified Yoga Therapist, E-RYT 500 Yoga Instructor and Massage Therapist with an extensive background in structural anatomy. She is also a certified Hatha, Kundalini, and Kids yoga teacher. She has been practicing and teaching yoga since 1999.
Sam's love of therapeutic yoga inspired her to open TheraYoga Studio in Los Angeles . "Sam's soul oozes with love and gratitude and that spills over to her students. Her zest and love for what she does makes you feel safe, loved, and excited to delve into self-study. She taught me how to calm my mind, open my heart, and know that it will be OK."

"I came to Therayoga with some spinal injuries and associated back and hip pain, and took a restorative yoga class with Samantha. After 12 years of being a yoga student, it was such a wonderful surprise to be introduced to this wonderful type of healing yoga. Samantha truly has a gift: she empowers her students to take the best care of themselves!"
