ODDlight Teacher Feature: Sarah Helt

May 9th, 2024 oddfam #ODDlight, Blog, Community

Sarah Helt, the cosmic conductor of communal rituals and the mastermind behind your journey to self-discovery through yoga and now Qigong. With a Virgo sun, Taurus moon, and Aries rising, she's the perfect blend of earthy grounding and fiery passion. When she's not guiding transformative yoga sessions or communing with nature in her garden, you can find her unlocking the universe's secrets through Qigong. Don't miss her upcoming workshop on May 19th, where she'll lead you through a generating flow that taps into the poetry of nature and unlocks a symphony of body wisdom and healing.

What are your "Big 3?"

Virgo sun ♍  Taurus moon ♉  Aries rising ♈

Five words to describe yourself?

I actually did this activity a few years ago for a marketing course! I asked my family and a few close friends this question. I have a 50 words list; I encourage everyone to try it! You might be surprised by the answers your loved ones give! Here are the top 5: Amusing, Adventurous, Creative, Thoughtful, Curious

What's an ODD fact about you?

I love communal rituals - I just officiated my second wedding last week! I hope I am invited to lead more ceremonies!

One thing you're working on in your personal practice right now?

Contentment.

Where are you when you're not on the mat?

I never leave the mat. J/K - I'm at home in my garden, or at the Korean spa.

Favorite food or restaurant?

My favorite food are tacos (or, honestly, anything you can use as a vehicle for salsa), but I also love Thai Green Curry with tofu from Daisy Mint in Pasadena!

Something that inspires you?

Jane Fonda, I'm obsessed with her activism and her vulnerability in interviews at 85!

What initially inspired you to become a yoga instructor?

My clowning professor in college, he also lead an " advanced movement studies - yoga" class and suggested I teach. He saw something in me that changed my life forever.

Where are you inviting play into your practice/day to day?

Play is a life-value of mine! I consider play a creative act so any time I teach, write, or make arts/crafts I'm playing! I play music, I try new things on and off the mat, I like being adventurous in what/where I eat and I love playing card games.

If your students take home ONE lesson from your class, what do you hope it is?

That you are not separate from nature.

What song/album/playlist do you have on repeat right now?

Unabashedly, Beyonce's new Album Cowboy Carter, also Wiser than Me with Julia Louis-Dreyfus - it's a podcast (listen to the Jane Fonda episode!)

One affirmation you always come back to?

I trust myself.

How are you feeling good these days?

I am feeling good by leaning in to what I love and who I am. (Also I meditate.)
