ODDlight Teacher Feature: Caroline Codd

Apr 17th, 2024 oddfam #ODDlight, Blog, Community

Queen of the kiddos, Caroline was put on this earth to inspire a new generation of mindful little yogis and to cultivate the sweetest of vibes as our Eagle Rock location coordinator. A lover of animals, nature, and being the first to jump into any body of water, Caroline brings that connection to and admiration for the natural world to every Kids Yoga class and to the Eagle Rock community! When you're around Caroline, you can't help but open your heart to her compassionate, kind, and inviting spirit. Just don't open your Thai food leftovers around her because they are not safe. Have a blissful blast with the whole family in her Family Yoga Workshop on Sunday, April 21. If you miss that, she leads Kids Yoga every Sunday at 3pm in Eagle Rock, and, according to her tiny students and their parents, it's not to be missed!

What are your "Big 3?"

Pisces sun ♓  Virgo moon ♍  Capricorn rising ♑

Five words to describe yourself?

Compassionate, silly, kind, chill (lol thanks yoga!), resilient

What's an ODD fact about you?

If there is a body of water, I will always be the first one in it.

One thing you're working on in your personal practice right now?

Deepening my conscious breath, staying with my breath and allowing it to carry me through discomfort.

Where are you when you're not on the mat?

Aspirationally, I’m hiking with my dog. Realistically, I’m napping on the couch with my dog,

Favorite food or restaurant?

Thai food all day every day, even though I’m a spice wimp. Night + Market is the BEST

Something that inspires you?

I’m forever and always inspired by nature. Right now, I’m cultivating self-inspiration, celebrating how far I’ve come and the life I’m creating.

What initially inspired you to become a yoga instructor?

I came to yoga in college. It was transformational for my well-being and helped me heal through the loss of my dad in my early 20s. I wanted to learn how to share its profound teachings, in the hopes that I might be a vessel to help ease the suffering of others.

Where are you inviting play into your practice/day to day?

I went super hard on inversions early in my practice. During the pandemic, my practice became much more restorative and gentle and I was afraid to try inversions for fear I wasn’t strong anymore. I’m starting to play with them again and it’s fun! Taking a beginner’s mindset allows me to release any expectations.

If your students take home ONE lesson from your class, what do you hope it is?

I teach kids, teens, and adults so for all ages, I just hope it’s a class that invites trying something new. Yoga is a sacred practice, but at the same time, I hope we can all take ourselves a little less seriously! I imagine the laughing buddha, inviting us to seek more joy and less perfection. .

What song/album/playlist do you have on repeat right now?

Kacey Musgrave’s new album “Deeper Well”. It’s so fresh and sweet and full of spring-time good vibes. I’ve been singing “The Architect” a lot.

One affirmation you always come back to?

I’ve been thinking about and coming back to the first sutra a lot “atha yoga anushasanam”, now the practice of yoga begins. It reminds me that the practice is as important off my mat as it is on, if not more. And to stay in relation to the present... “now this, and now this and now this” on and on.

How are you feeling good these days?

Less social media, more reading and New York Times word games.
