One Down Dog yoga teacher featuring Mikayla Campbell

ODDlight Teacher Feature: Mikayla Campbell

Aug 13th, 2024 oddfam #ODDlight

Although newer to the ODD team, Mikayla wasted no time carving out a special place on the schedule and in our hearts and quads with her balance of soothing and energizing instruction and athletic background – playing Division 1 Women’s Soccer at the peak of her 20+ year career. Mikayla's classes are like nourishing greens & grains bowls of yoga, as she intentionally creates an environment that is rooted in culture, diversity, and movement where all folks – especially those historically excluded – can feel joy, empowerment, confidence, self awareness, and self love. As a forever student, Mikayla recently expanded her knowledge to sound healing, now incorporating a 30-minute sound bath at the end of a 45-minute SLOW FLOW in the all-new SLOW FLOW & SOUND that settles our bodies and soothes our nervous systems every Thursday at 7:45pm in Echo Park studio beginning August 15th. If you're looking to heat things up with a trained athlete, don't miss Mikayla's weekly SWEAT classes on Wednesdays at 8:30am, now heated to 90° for a fiery experience to write home about.

What are your "Big 3?"

Capricorn sun ♑ Gemini moon ♊  Libra rising ♎

Five words to describe yourself?

Loyal, bright, kind, passionate, and silly

What's an ODD fact about you?

I am repulsed by peanut butter!

What initially inspired you to become a yoga instructor?

Yoga’s ability to reveal our deepest self keeps me inspired. I honor that our experiences on the mat tell us so much about who we are off of it. Perhaps even more own rewarding, I love witnessing students’ become curious about their bodies and demonstrate a transformation that transcends their mat as they uncover the innate knowledge possessed within.

SLOW FLOW & SOUND is a new class format (so exciting!) - what can students expect to experience in this class?

Students can expect 45 minutes of a yummy, yet grounding flow to wind down, and 30 minutes of a sound journey using crystal singing bowls, chimes, ocean drums and more to promote deep relaxation.

What song/album/playlist do you have on repeat right now?

Kaytranada. Smooth, R&B vibes? SiR, Daniel Caesar, Ari Lennox, The Internet, and Cleo Sol of course!

One affirmation you always come back to?

I trust my body’s innate wisdom.
